So much cause for celebration recently when Foster Care UK foster carer, Tony Weller and his partner received a nomination for Carer of the Year Award at West Sussex’s Epic Awards.
Such an incredible accolade for them both. We managed to catch up with Tony recently, and what a humble man he is, being far more keen to talk about the achievements of his foster children than his own. In particular, 11-year-old L, who not only received a nomination for a Epic Award but did walk away with the Big Talent Award on the night. Tony has every reason to be proud.
It was plain for us to see that Tony has a heart of gold, his focus all about his family rather than himself. His family which also consists of his partner, who is a social worker, who he fosters L with, along with two other boys. He says;
With Tony’s partner being a social worker, she has seen first hand the countries desperate need for kind and caring people to step up and become foster carers for vulnerable children. Tony decided to step back from his career as a builder and devote his time to being the primary foster carer.
It is easy to see why the pair earned not one, but two nominations for the Foster Carer of the Year Award, with both their social worker and L putting him forward. And while they didn’t walk away with the award, the family still enjoyed the night.
“I was really proud to be there, the kids had a great time. Fostering is so rewarding, it is it’s own reward but it is always nice to have something like the nomination.”
We are so honoured to have you both as part of the Foster Care UK family, Tony.
