Over the next few years the number of children coming into care could reach a shocking 100,000. This means we need to find 25,000 more foster carers.
That’s why for Foster Care Fortnight this year, we have decided to act by producing our own video to highlight the potential crisis and to urge people to consider whether they could foster and offer a child or young person a home.
Jacci Kirkland, Director of QA and Service Improvement said it was a real and urgent problem which needs to be addressed.
“Children and young people need to be a priority and this crisis has been slowly dripping away in the background for a number of years now and something has to be done, and quickly.
“We have some wonderful foster carers who work with FosterCare UK, but we urgently need more. We liken this to a dripping tap, which will inevitably overflow and have a huge impact for decades to come, as many children aren’t given the opportunity of a, stable home in their time of need.”
The issue was recently raised to parliament by MP Kate Osbourne who said: “The demand for Foster carers and demand for emergency support has never been more important or in demand.”
