Children may find themselves in care for many different reasons. It may be that their parent is suffering from a short-term illness or there may be a temporary situation within the family that has resulted in them needing care away from their family home.
There are many different reasons why a child might end up in foster care. It may be that their home environment is no longer safe to live in, or their parent is suffering a short-term illness, or they require extra support away from their family that has resulted in them needing to be placed into foster care.
Here at Foster Care UK, we make it our mission to offer children and young children safe and caring environments to live in and allow them to develop and progress.
Fostering is sometimes a short-term arrangement for a child or young person whilst the local authority work with their family to resolve the situation at home. Not all children are able to return home if a solution is unachievable, when this happens the local authority becomes the corporate parent who take on the responsibility of finding a new safe and stable home.
As an independent fostering agency, we have thousands of approved foster carers who are trained to look after children and young people in this type of situation.
As of the March 2019, there were 56,160 children who were living with foster families - this is 72 per cent of the 78,150 children in care looked after away from home (Department for Education, 2018). There are around 44,450 foster families in England and every year thousands of new foster families are needed in England.
